The Premier League is the most interesting league in the world. Not only is the title race very captivating every year, it’s a question for everyone who will relegate as well. Sadly, this year seem to have two top favorites for relegation, in Watford and Norwich City. But, three teams have to relegate: who will be the last one to join them to the Championship? In this blog, we’ll list three relegation candidates that we could see go down. – Premier League this season
- Burnley- Premier League this season
Currently in 18th place is Burnley. This Sean Dyche led team has been struggling to get some good performances in, but have also seen a lot of games cancelled due to the COVID-wave that hit England this season. Therefor, they have a couple of games in hand still. We predict Burnley to stay up: in Wout Weghorst they’ve signed a good striker, that perfectly fits their system and even better: that perfectly fits the Premier League. This shows in their most recent results: Burnley have seemed to find their way back up. Still, Burnley are one of the top favorites for relegation, as they’re simply in the worst spot to be in right now.
- Brentford
Where Brentford had a very strong start, things are looking troublesome for them as they’ve struggled to find a win over their last couple of games. Although the signing of Christian Eriksen did show ambition, this isn’t really showing yet. Brentford are currently in 15th place, which doesn’t sound too bad. However, they’re only three points ahead of Burnley, who are in 18th. The gap is small and could easily be closed, as Burnley still have two games in hand compared to Brentford. The only reason why Brentford is 15th, is because of their great start. Are they currently experiencing a dip in form, or is this the beginning of the end for them?
- Leeds
Leeds promoted into the Premier League in the summer of 2020, showing good, attacking football. They weren’t a relegation candidate for the 2020-2021 season, but things are looking different now. Leeds have been massively underperforming compared to the season before, which even led to the sacking of their manager Marcelo Bielsa. We are skeptical if this was the correct decision or not, as Bielsa often found a way to make many teams struggle. Leeds’ team depth is simply not very deep, which could be a reason for them to struggle. We definitely have Leeds as a candidate to go down this season, as they’re currently in 16th place, only two points above Burnley. We’ll see now if firing Bielsa was the right choice.
