Both Leicester City as well as their striker Jamie Vardy have been setting the football pitch on fire this Premier League season. The 32-year-old English footballer has already scored 17 goals in the 19 appearances he has made for The Foxes this season so far. Even though he’ll turn 33 this January, Vardy is expected to further extend his goalscoring run in the tournament this EPL season.
As of now, being 4 goals ahead of the joint-second position holders Aubameyang and Danny Ings, Vardy is a clear favorite for the Golden Boot title at various offline and online sports betting platforms. As there are several fixtures ahead, it’s not unlikely that other players might catch up and potentially beat the Englishman too. Let’s look at some of the potential contenders.
Table of Contents
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Danny Ings
Tied on 13 goals, Aubameyang and Danny Ings are easily within a reaching distance from the top scorer. Arsenal’s leading goalscorer at 22 goals in the last season, Aubameyang tied with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the top spot last time. He is more than halfway through at this point and boosted with the tough and no-nonsense presence of Mikel Arteta, it is expected that he will easily surpass his last season’s goals tally this time.
Danny Ings can’t be written off either, but he will need to reach the 20 goals mark without getting dropped off. Everyone knows Southampton aren’t playing at their best right now and that’s the only thing that might hold the striker back.
Marcus Rashford and Tammy Abraham
Marcus Rashford has eventually found his rhythm at Manchester United after having a relatively slow start this season. The 22-year young player has found the back of the net 12 times so far and is well on course to reach the 20 marks. However, it will require a huge goalscoring run from Rashford and a big drop in the form of Jamie Vardy for the former to catch up with the latter. We all know anything is possible in football! Tammy Abraham of Chelsea has a good chance too as he is tied up with Rashford for the joint-third spot at 12 goals.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah
Both these Liverpool stars cannot be ruled out either. They have scored 11 and 10 goals respectively so far and will need to really explode during the second half of the ongoing EPL season to reach anywhere close to Jamie Vardy. Sadio Mane finished at 4th position during the Ballon d’Or voting for 2019. Mohamed Salah, his African compatriot, on the other hand, finished in the 5th position. It will require a monumental effort from both these to usurp the Leicester City striker. Because as of now Vardy is playing as if he should have been awarded the Ballon d’Or instead!
Harry Kane
At 11 goals, Harry Kane isn’t too far behind in the race and provided that Tottenham doesn’t slump down any further in terms of results and Kane isn’t injured, there is every chance that he might get there too.
