Gi’ral was held captive at the secret Romulan prison camp in the Carraya System. There, she married Romulan prison camp commander Tokath, and they had a daughter, Ba’el.
Although Gi’ral accepted her lot as a prisoner, she later supported the wishes of some of the children in the camp to go free. (Birthright, Parts I and II [TNG])
