In 2020 the American camping and RV business saw a huge boom as, thanks to the pandemic, people chose to holiday closer to home and/or in a more isolated manner. We don’t see this changing in 2021…

So, it’s time to get booking before all the good pitches are gone!
Camping in 2021
2021 does seem like a strange time to be booking a holiday but RV trips and camping offer a great opportunity for a change of scenery without exposing yourself or others to danger.
However, things will be a little different this year. With changes in laws, habits, and many tourism-based businesses being closed your experience will be unlike any other year.
Today we’ll be covering the three main things you can do to ensure you have an amazing time camping in 2021.
Be patient
As we mentioned above camping and RVing are more popular than its ever been. The industry saw between a 30 – 40% boom in 2020.
The other major change in the industry is that many campsites and national parks are shut down.
Many campsites were also forced to restrict their numbers so that their guests could adhere to social distancing laws.
All this means that there are more people looking for fewer spaces. So it is more important than ever to be patient when looking for pitches and with the people running the campsites.
If you are struggling to find a place to camp try to think outside the box. Why not look slightly further away from your usual destination, or try camping at a different time of year.
Be Safe
Here are a few things to bear in mind when preparing to camp in 2021.
With the pandemic, the situation is constantly changing. There is no way to guarantee that a holiday you book now will be able to go ahead. So, when booking your pitches make sure to find a campsite that will allow you to reschedule or refund your trip if needed.
Make sure that you are prepared to cook for most of your trip. Many restaurants across the country have closed their doors. Whilst the few that are open will be grateful for your custom it is important that you limit your contact with the locals as much as possible. This is as much for their sake as yours.
Many first aid kit parts and PPE items are more in demand than they have ever been. We recommend stocking up before your trip. Be prepared to wear masks when you visit local restaurants and grocery stores. Always carry hand sanitizer. And make sure to regularly disinfect the communal areas of your van.
Most campsites have been forced to change their set up to align themselves with the government’s COVID guidelines. This means that many of their shared areas might be off-limits or have limited numbers allowed in at a time. You will also be asked to camp further away from the other guests (this is not necessarily a bad thing!) to allow for social distancing.
Be Prepared
Camping is going to look very different in 2021 and it’s important than ever that you prepare yourself.
Many of the usual camping activities and amenities will be unavailable to you this time around. So make sure to stock up on the following things before you leave:
- Fully stock your first aid kit
- Pack spare batteries
- Fully stock your pantry
- Bring extra clothes
- Fully stock up PPE (personal protective equipment; like masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves)
We mentioned above that camping at a different time of year will make it easier to find somewhere to stay. Doing this does come with its own trials.
If you decide that you want to camp later in 2021, then we recommend preparing for the cold. Most of us own trailers designed to be used in the summer, however, if you’re looking to camp after October then it might be worth investing in trailers for cold weather.
Ready for Camping in 2021 since it will be incredibly different from any camping you have done in the past. But this does not mean it can’t be fun and relaxing.
