So, your cell phone rings, and you get an answer, and just seconds later, you disconnect the call. It is a habit that millions of people have become used to because of robocalls.
While stopping the calls may appear impossible, some Floridian laws can help you reduce their frequency.
What are robocalls?
Robocalls refer to messages and calls that are done using voices mimicking humans. They often aim to sell and advertise goods and services, possibly extending your car warranty. Most of the time, they are a part of fraud, identity theft, scamming, or cyber-crime. (buy xanax from europe)
And the numbers seem to rise consistently. Around 60 million Americans reported losing money because of phone scams in 2021. According to?Truecaller Insights, around $29 billion was lost in America alone due to phone scams in the past year.
How can you restrict robocalls in Florida?
State governing bodies are aware of the problem and have taken serious steps to address it. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services suggest the people of Florida add their numbers to the ?Do Not Call List? that will determine the violation of the prospective telemarketing companies and take legal action.
The Federal Trade Commission also has a Do-Not-Call list. They take steps to stop calls and speak to the legit telemarketers to stop calling those on the list.
In July 2021, the Florida law created a section of phone solicitation in the Florida Consumer Protection Law to stop calling consumers who follow do-not-call requests.
Does Florida consider robocalls illegal?
Federal law bans pre-recorded sales call messages. Other recorded messages include charitable calls, debt collection calls, survey calls, political calls, and more.
If the caller hasn?t given permission to the company or the robocall is complete information, it is marked as spam.
Another provision includes the law restricting the sales calls before 8 am and after 9 pm. Also, one company shouldn?t make a call thrice a day.
A word of precaution
According to FCC, you shouldn?t interact with a robocall, even for seconds. If you get a robocall, hang up as soon as possible. And, if you think you are getting illegal robocalls, report it to the regulators. As per Federal law, the companies are fined heftily for it.
If you think a caller/ company has violated the rules and still called you after a no-consent or DND, you can file a robocall lawsuit against them. They will have to pay for the damages they?ve done to you.
If you have set strict limitations of not getting any calls and still get calls from telemarketers, you should visit a dedicated law group to help you out. They will understand your situation and let you know whether you have a case.
