2022 Toyota 4Runner Review and Features?
With that, the 2022 4Runner was revealed a couple of months ago. Looks-wise, not much has changed. There?s a new TRD version which should add more sportiness to the offroader range.?

Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The 2022 4Runner sports a 4.0-liter V6 engine, connected to a 5-speed automatic-transmission. The power output is 270 horsepower and there?s 278 lb-ft of torque available. You get rear- and four-wheel-drive drivetrains.?
This SUV certainly isn?t the quickest by today?s standards. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per-hour in around 8 seconds. However, its towing capacity is pretty great at 5000lbs. The vehicular payload capacity is unknown though.?
Too bad the fuel economy is preposterous. The 4Runner does about 17 to 20mpg which puts it behind its competitors. It clearly needs a revamp here as Toyota moves deeper into more fuel-efficient technologies.?
Interior and Technology
The styling inside hasn?t changed either. The 2022 4Runner is known to be rugged and this translates to the interior as well. The design is simple and many will call it outdated when you look at the car?s rivals.
However, it is large as far as the space is concerned. You get good seating for 5 to 7 passengers with lots of headroom and legroom. The seats are comfortable as well. Furthermore, there?s seating available on the tailgate as well.?
The 4Runner also has a lot of storage area plus many cubbies. The double tailgate makes it easier to load/unload. The entire second row will fold out to increase the storage capacity of the 2022 4Runner.?
For the tech, you get an 8-inch infotainment system and push-button start. There are connections for Apple and Android users. You can also increase the number of speakers to 15. So is the sliding moonroof and satellite navigation.?
As with most Toyotas nowadays, the standard safety features are plenty. Automated emergency braking and cruise control are two of them. Let?s not forget about the lane-keep and lane-departure assists.?
You can get a lot in terms of offroad capability. There are systems to detect the type of terrain you?re on, locking rear diffs, crawl control, and more if you pick one of the two available TRD offroading packages.?
Exterior and Driving
The exterior is simplistic yet handsome and it carries on from last year?s model. If you need your 4Runner to look apart, you can get the TRD sport package. It adds larger wheels, more badges and a hood scoop to the 4Runner.
The drive isn?t extraordinarily quick as suggested by the acceleration figures above. But you can bet that it is very stable and you feel in command no matter which terrain you?re on. The Limited trim has more body control.?
Price and Warranty?
The price list for the 2022 4Runner isn?t out yet. The base model should cost around $38k and this should go into the mid $50k range. There are much better alternatives in this price range however.??
The warranty covers the 4Runner for 36k miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. Similarly, its powertrain warranty is of 60k miles or 5 years. You?ll also get free maintenance for two years after the purchase date.
Verdict
So, this was the not-so-new 2022 Toyota 4Runner. It seems like this truck isn?t moving quite so well with the times. It doesn?t really have a lot to show in terms of refinement and plushness.?
While not being flashy isn?t an issue, the interior seems outdated. The Toyota also lacks the fuel economy figures that could add more practicality to it. It isn?t the quickest option in the market either despite its large engine.?
With that being said, it is still a beast offroad. There are many systems that help make it this way. These features combine well with its rugged and durable construction to make it a good companion for the trail.?
