Sitting down all day is totally unnatural, so invest in some ergonomic furniture that will encourage good posture & promote good health. You can also buy ergonomic aids such as a laptop mat, specially shaped ergonomic keyboards or mice to counteract carpal tunnel syndrome. In short, accessories that make you more comfortable at work and support your health at the same time. It doesn’t have to be ugly either – our tip is to choose a neutral colour scheme (think whites, creams, greys) and stick with it. Avoid black, (tricky sometimes because it’s common in office furniture) it will really darken the space and make it feel claustrophobic. Try to always set up your area so that it looks out of a window, if possible – good for that feng shui & encourages natural light. Also invest in some good storage, and cable tidies to neaten the space. Plants are always a good idea – they will brighten the area & little decorative details will give you a positive association with your work space.
If you decide to set up a study in your bedroom or Workroom in the bedroom, try to visually and practically separate the two activities you will be doing there – sleep and work. One interesting solution may be a chic curtain, in a sheer or nicely patterned fabric, that separates the study from the bedroom.
If you have enough space, another option could be to arrange the furniture so that a small study is created in the space behind the wardrobes. Simply place a desk and good lighting here and you can work quite undisturbed.
